Classes & EU Enthusiasts

Updated: Feb 6, 2019

Classes started this week! Yes, believe it or not, I AM here for school too. I'm actually pretty excited about my classes this semester. Partly because I'm genuinely interested in them and partly because they seem pretty easy. I'm taking a PR and Case Studies class, a Practice: Video and TV class, a French class, and a Photography class. Each class only meets up once a week for about 2 hours, I have Wednesdays free, and pretty much have no homework/readings. Honestly I'm HERE for it!! (In America, a college class typically lasts anywhere from 1-2.5 hours and meets up 2-3 times a week. And I usually have a lot of/long readings to do and papers to write each week).

Without any clubs, sports, APO/volunteering, a job, hours of homework to do...I hardly what I'm going to do with alllll my free time. To be completely honest, I know if I get bored enough, that's when I also get homesick. So I'm definitely planning on staying busy by exploring Brussels and Ixelles during my free time. And I want to practice my photography and stay on top of my writing/blog and all that. And I'd love to learn/practice my (currently nonexistent) French. And I plan to travel as much as possible on the weekends. So...maybe I will keep pretty busy? We shall see....

Luckily, so far (all 2 days! haha), I've kept busy before and after class though. It helps a lot knowing that I'm not the only one in the same boat with not much responsibility in activities/having a job/homework/etc. This morning, Mackenzie, Theresa, and I went to get our visas stamped/approved. After being sent to 4 buildings, we finally ended up in the right one ("Belgium likes making everything complicated" is an excuse we've heard multiple times in our week of being here - and we've learned on multiple occasions they're completely right). And after class, Hannes and Thomas wanted pictures in their matching EU sweatshirts in front of the European Commission area. The two of them bought those sweatshirts last week after a lecture we had about the EU. So, the 3 of us, Amalie, Marion, and Tom went on a little adventure to the European Commission so we had a matching background. And Marion and I decided we also wanted to join in and borrowed their sweatshirts for ourselves, despite neither of our countries (USA and Norway) being apart of the EU. It was super fun with a whole lot of ridiculous poses and enthusiasm.

And after class yesterday, Amalie, Mackenzie, Theresa and I went to get coffee while some others were in class. Then, we met up with Hannes, Thomas, Mary, Chloe, and Mayla and got dinner at The Waffle Factory and some of us went to The Little Delirium to hangout in for a few hours. Also, this is totally random, but there's so much street art everywhere in the city; I love it!! I'm so in love with Brussels.
