From Budapest, Cassidy flew back to Brussels with Mackenzie and I. We had 3 days together in my city before I headed to Greece and she headed back to America. Luckily, Cassidy came with some things she wanted to see/do in Brussels so I didnt have to plan out each day looking for things to do: go to an art museum, do some shopping for her mom, and go to a park. And lucky for her, the weather was absolutely beautiful for 2 of the 3 days, where we actually saw the sun and enjoyed 70 degree weather.
On our first day, I actually had an oral exam for my PR and Case Studies class. So I went to that real quick (it was literally a 10 minute conversation with the professor where he asked me a question), and then we went out and did some sightseeing. I showed her manekin pis, Grand Place, jeaneken pis, the Delirium, the Royal Palace, and the Royal Park. We stopped in every store that seemed interesting - including the Vans store, a home and decorating store, a soap store, a chocolate store, etc. Anything that looked cute or remotely interesting, we went in. For lunch, I took her to Peck 47 (one of my favorite restaurants in Brussels), and a bit later we got waffles to eat in the Grand Place. Then we went back to my place to drop off our bags, went to a friend’s goodbye dinner, and then went to a party with some other friends that was held at IHECS. Cassidy fit right in, and we all danced and just had a good time that night outside on the street!
On Thursday, we went to Aksum Coffee for breakfast, which was in the city center. Seriously, the best coffee and breakfast place in Brussels I’ve found so far. Then we went to the **** art museum. I had been there back in January (read about it here). But it was fun to check it out again and see a few pieces of artwork that I had missed earlier. And we had great commentary during our time (I thought at least). From there, we headed across the street to the Instrument Museum which has a rooftop bar and a good view of the city! The food was too expensive so we went up, got some pictures, and then got kicked out for not ordering something (oops).
Since the rooftop bar idea had failed, we waited for my friend, Thomas, to meet up with us before finding lunch. We decided we weren’t really thattttt hungry, so we just got fries at Friteland and then headed over to the Parc de Cintquaire**. Since Thomas was with us at that point, we had our own personal photographer which was great. Cassidy and I unintentionally wore matching outfits literally everyday we were in Brussels. Friendship’s just meant to be amiright!? After that, I took her to Ebrius, a popular bar amongst IHECS students mainly for their happy hour deals. The weather was beautiful so we enjoyed sitting outside before getting kebabs and hanging out.
Friday was our last day together. I was actually leaving for Greece that night, and she was leaving the next morning (I let her sleep in my bed tho haha). The weather was gross and cold out all day too. I had my last final - my photography final project - to show off to my professor that morning. Officially done with junior year!!! Afterwards, we ate at the Avocado Show and just wandered around Brussels. We went to a thrift store, an art exhibit, back to the home and decorating store, etc.
And from there, I had to head to the airport. I was so sad to go and say bye to her, but I’m only that much more excited for next year (Cassidy and I will be roommates (along with 2 other girls) in the fall). Check out all my pictures from this week here.
