That afternoon, we drove to Delft, in The Netherlands, for the night. We did a little bit of sightseeing and got dinner. We watched the sunset in the city center, which was so pretty to watch. There were lots of bikers everywhere, so we had to watch out! Those bikers were aggressive.
On Tuesday, we woke up early, got breakfast from a local bakery, and drove to Lisse, also in The Netherlands. It’s been a lifelong dream (literally, since she was a little girl) of my mom to see the tulip fields here, and we finally got to cross it off her bucket list!!! And it was more than worth it - her excitement and getting distracted by every flower field was so cute and the fields were BEAUTIFUL. The flower fields just seemed to go on and on forever with all different colors everywhere. Absolutely un-freaking-real.
We visited a garden - Keukenhof - where there were gardens of flowers. The theme this year was “flower power”, so there were some major hippie/70s vibes with props and designs throughout these giant gardens. The gardens were just as pretty as the fields we drove past, with different layers of flowers (short, medium sized, and tall) so all we saw were flowers. It was all just SO gorgeous!!!
After the gardens, we biked around for a few hours. We biked to the North Sea, where my sister and I stuck our feet in the freeeeezing cold water. We biked and saw more tulip fields. It was such a perfect day.
From Lisse, we drove to Amsterdam to spend the night there. I was also here back in February (which you can read here), but I was excited to see it in the spring and to see the trees with some leaves on them. We got a light dinner (that included some holland cheese!) and walked over to see the red light district. I tried warning my family about it, but they all wanted to see it. Amanda described it perfectly: “I feel like we’re in a horror movie with them knocking on the doors to get our attention. All they need to do is walk out and attack us now”. Still, I must say it was pretty busy considering it was a Tuesday night!
Wednesday morning was spent exploring Amsterdam some. We walked to the city center, to the main canal, and to the Anne Frank house. Amsterdam really is such a pretty city!! And I love how bike friendly the city is and popular it actually is. I wish the US had more (or even just one) bike-friendly city.
From the Netherlands, we drove to spend a couple of days in Germany.....
