Amsterdam

Weekend #2 was spent in Amsterdam with Marion, Mackenzie, and Theresa!! Ah, the city of bicycles and marijuana.

We took the bus (22 euros roundtrip!) there. We got there pretty late on Friday night, around midnight. And after being on a bus for 4-5 hours, we had the late night giggles - laughing at everything from mispronouncing the names of the train stops to the fact that Mackenzie and Theresa's roommates had their boxers hanging up in the closet (we stayed at a hostel).

Saturday was a full day. We woke up early and ate brunch at Omelegg, which has REALLY good eggs (like seriously 11/10 recommend this place). From there, we wandered around and just explored the city. We saw the canals and bridges, explored the shops, and some of us (Marion and Mackenzie) even held some pigeons. Also - bikes definitely have the right of way compared to pedestrians and even cars. It was crazy!! Later that afternoon, we went to Amsterdam Dungeon. There were some good scares and some cheesy humor during it. It ended up being really fun though!! The pictures below are from before, when I decided to go to the bathroom before and there were creepy noises coming from the room. Caught on camera is my reaction when the creepy noises became high pitched screaming. Just trying to pee in peace here. After surviving the Dungeon, we got dinner at Cafe de Paris. Again, the food was fantastic. Also, we learned that "coffeshop" means they serve marijuana in their food/etc., while a "cafe" is a normal shop selling coffee and pastries. Just a tip for anyone (don't worry, we didn't learn that the hard way haha). Then we walked around the Red Light District. That was honestly a little shocking, yet I knew what to expect. It was interesting seeing it once, but I'm not really planning on seeing it again tbh.

On Sunday, we got breakfast at De Vier Pilaren. Shoutout to my friend, Sarah, for the recommendation. Seriously, they had the BEST pancakes and Poffertjes (tiny fluffy pastry things). And we had a good view being right on the canal. After breakfast, we went to the Van Gough museum. It was so cool!!! I loved looking at all his artwork, especially his self-portraits. It's crazy that every one of his self-portraits are so different, yet you can always tell its the same person. Unfortunately, we weren't able to get tickets to see the Anne Frank house. Guess it just means I have to come back some day though!
