Vienna

This blog post will be pretty quick because, well, my time in Vienna was quick. I was there for a total of 27 hours; just one night.

When we first arrived, we had an hour to kill before we could check into our hostel. And let me tell you. Sunday’s in Vienna are pretty DEAD. Not a single store was open and most restaurants were also closed. But I was able to find a random Turkish place open to get some food to go. After that long hunt for food and dropping our stuff at the hostel, I headed to the city center alone while Mackenzie napped. I headed for a park. From there, I went to Hofburg Palace, where both the Hofburg palace and the Imperial Place also are. They’re beautiful!! As always, the amount of detail is insane!!! The Hofburg Palace is especially interesting bc it was here, on a balcony, that Hitler declared war on Austria. No one's been on that balcony since then.

While hanging out on the lawn and enjoying the sun, I got a DM from a friend, Sarah, back home who’s interning in Vienna for the semester. We decided to meet up at a nearby easter market. The easter markets are so cute!!! Food (lots of meat, cheese, and dessert) was being sold, along with all sorts of homemade things like Easter eggs, jewelry, shoes, dolls, hats, dresses, wine, etc. And people had their vendors all decorated with lights and Easter eggs and wreaths. It was so pretty! And it was so fun catching up with Sarah!! We got some bratwurst and wine for dinner, and just kinda walked around while talking. She told me all the ins and outs of Vienna - like it’s a 40 euro fine for jaywalking and that Vienna is super safe and not very sketchy (they only had like 7 robberies last year) - and her favorite spots for coffee and breakfast, on top of telling me about her internship and just life in general. It was so nice catching up with her!!

After parting ways, I went to check out the Burggsrten park, where a statue of Mozart was. It’s so pretty there with all the flowers. After that, I headed back to the hostel since it was like a 40 minute walk.

The next morning, Mackenzie and I got breakfast and coffee at a place called Coffee Pirate. It was right next to the University of Vienna campus, and we think we were right next to the exchange student section bc we heard some English, so we blended right in with our big backpacks and speaking English. After eating, we headed back out to the city center. I pretty much just showed her the same spots I saw the night before; I didn’t really see anything new to be honest. We saw the palaces again, the park, the easter markets.

After that, we had to head to the train station to get to our next stop, Munich. WELL after googling probably more than necessary and already arriving there (50 minutes early!), we realized we went to the wrong train station! YIKES. So we asked for help, a guy gave a ticket for a train that left in 25 minutes so we could catch our connecting train in Salzburg and then go on to Munich. So so so thankful we decided to check out where to go instead of sitting outside for a while since we got there so early. Ahhhh. Just a little stressful, but we made it to Munich - and on time!
