To be honest, I had no idea what to expect from Munich. I had heard of the city because of Oktoberfest, but didn’t really know much more about it. And that’s still what it's mostly known for (at least for me), but it’s a really pretty city!
An exchange student who lived on my hall my freshman year at HPU is actually living in Munich now, and she reached out to me asking if we wanted to hangout. I said of course, so she invited myself and the other 2 people I was traveling with - Marion and Mackenzie - over to her apartment for dinner the first night we got there. Once we got to Munich, I went to the hostel to check in and drop off my stuff, then we went straight to her apartment. It was so fun catching up with Sophia!! We just caught up, ate pizza, and watched some videos of bobsledding and from Oktoberfest. It was such a fun evening!!
The only full day we were in Munich, we actually went to Schwangau, which is about a 2-hour train away and where the Neuschstein Castle is. I wrote a whole separate blog post about that, which you can read here.
The next day, we weren’t leaving until later in the afternoon so we spent the morning exploring and walking around for a little bit before finding a coffee shop to hangout in until our train left. Sophia came and met us there to see us one last time!
Shortly after Sophia got there, Marion left to catch her train left and the coffee shop was closing. So Sophia took Mackenzie and I to a place where people surf a wave in the Eisbach. It was super cool!! This wave was natural/not man made at all. These guys would take turns surfing and as soon as he/she wiped out, someone else would go out and do their tricks until they wiped out. After that, we went back to the train station to catch our train.
The train ride to our next stop was also fun. Mackenzie and I ended up talking the entire ride about like everything - family, friends, our past, high point, college in general, boys, just everything. Super fun time even if we almost missed our connecting train (we didn’t though).
Check out all the pictures from Munich here.
